AALTO'S SAVOY VASE.

When the architect Alvar Aalto showed the Savoy Vase at the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1937, as a representation of the glass industry of his country, he didn't know he was presenting to the world one of the most outstanding icons of design of the 20 th century.
It is curious how such a simple object is recognized as one of the most famous pieces of modern design, being it extremely linked to its country, and its personal experience. Aalto pursues to embody in this piece the essence of Finland , and of himself. Fond of nature, he utilizes one of the most known images of his land, the lakes. With the sinuous outline of the vase, with those curves and waves, of perfect design, he manages to inspire the peace and the calm of those forests that he loved so much.
Nowadays, in this world, in which northern design has turned into something daily thanks to determined big surfaces, we must remember that the genesis of that all had a lot in common with the achievement that pieces of art reached the whole world, making existence something much more pleasant.
In the course of history people always wanted to make life a unique, beautiful, and different experience, and to do this we have always used more or less daily objects. This is what makes art something intrinsic of mankind .
