THE TERRIFYING MUSEUMS NIGHT, TO BE CONTINUE.

The last 20 th of May was celebrated in Madrid an initiative that meant to close the celebrations of the “Museum day”. The event was about an open day with free entrance, from 7pm to 1am, in various museums of the capital.
That day I started working as a room assistant at the museum “Thyssen”, where an army of about 18.5000 people, according to official sources, started to parade. This was overcome with success, and because of this we even got congratulations, really well-deserved, because the most of the workers sweated blood that night to do well our job: guarding. It looked like the only thing that mattered was “being there”, and, most of all, “having entered for free”.
Is this the price we have to pay for teaching the audience? To let the trinomial MUSEUMS-ART-LIFE have its effect these initiatives are needed: open days, concerts, alternative activities, free expositions….but what about the preventive conservation or the didactic filters of the exhibitions?
21 st century's museology? Yes, but of good quality. Faced with acts of this kind we can not keep quiet, since we are being educated with this cultural responsibility; on the contrary, the next 23 rd of September can turn into another attack to museums.
Sometimes something good for the community can turn into something bad for the collections.
