"ESPACIOS VITALES. ARTE Y CREACIÓN EN LA UAM"

SALA DE EXPOSICIONES DE LA UAM, EL PABELLÓN B Y LA FACULTAD DE FILOSOFÍA Y LETRAS
From the 4th to the 20th of December 2007

Espacios Vitales is a reflection on the creative process of contemporary art and the ways in which the artists and the audience relate to space. The work that has been created for a determinate location –beyond the limits of the location dedicated to artistic exhibition- aspire to call the attention of the audience that passes by every day, causing new looks and relations with the surroundings, and reactions of uncertainty, surprise, doubt or rejection. During three weeks, the Room of Exhibition of UAM, the Pavilion B and the Faculty of Filosofía y Letras (Humanities) will welcome the projects by seven young multidisciplinary artists who have been suggested to participate in different areas of the university and to reflect on the way in which each of them intends the notion of space, through pieces designed on purpose for this exhibition.

Oriol Añón ( Barcelona , 1982) in his video shows us corridors and rooms through which every day walk hundreds of students, even though the technique used makes them almost unrecognizable in the final montage. The installation by Nuria Fuster (Alcoi, 1978) explores the qualities of the two materials utilized, giving them a new meaning through the decontextualization from their original use. The place mats by Fernando García ( Madrid , 1975), intended for self-service restaurant, pursue, on their side, to play with provocation and language on an ephemeral and fleeting support. Juan López (Cantabria, 1979) transforms one of the busiest areas of the Faculty of Humanities, by using as a characteristic element as notice boards. Esther Mañas ( Madrid , 1974) and Arash Moori ( Birmingham , 1977) present an installation in which light and sound turn into elements that transform the expositive space. Finally, Guzmán de Yarza Blache ( Zaragoza , 1976) with his video introduces us into a reflection on discipline and competitiveness in the processes of training and education implicit in the academic practices.

María Azcoitia, curator.
