For the first time, twenty years after its beginning, the Music Day was carried out in Madrid , during a whole day. Every kind of music was played at Circulo de Bellas Artes on Friday 21 st of July 2002.
In 1982 the French Ministry of Culture started to develop the idea of the creation of an international day dedicated to music through a series of highly entertaining events. A meeting where ages and social categories don't matter, where the whole population joins together to enjoy live music of any kind. A day, coinciding with the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, which will attract all of the cities and towns under the common denominator of music. During twenty years, the Music Day has broken the French borders, it has extended to more than 110 countries in the whole world and has turned into the European Day of Music.
Therefore, the Music Day is dedicated to any kind of music and audience, guaranteeing the heterogeneity of the performances, a massive participation and diversity of spaces. Because one of the peculiarities of this event is the fact that all of the concerts and activities planned are free, both the ones in the open air and the ones celebrated in rooms. The musicians, professional or amateurs, are invited to perform in a disinterested way. To make this possible, they are supported by teaching centres, professional associations, concert halls, councils, etc .
With the collaboration of Asociación Hablar en Arte and the magazine Doce notas, Círculo de bellas Artes turned into the main promoter of the Music Day in the Spanish capital. In this perspective it transformed into a true music factory during more that fourteen hours, that hosted more than 4.000 people .
