CONDE DUQUE CENTER
From May 2 to October 19, 2008.
To commemorate the Bicentennial of the Dos de Mayo and the War of Independence, the association Hablar en Arte and the Centro Conde Duque invite you to participate in a program of guided tours through the exposition 1808. Ciudad y protagonistas (1808. The City and Protagonists) . The exhibit, commissioned by Carmen del Moral Ruiz, professor of contemporary history at the Universidad Complutense, will offer the spectator an overall vision about the papers acquired by Madrid during these major political events that took place in the city
.
The tour will trace a route through the events in 1808, acknowledging the protagonists and, through analysis of various pieces and objects, explaining the causes of conflict, the changes in daily life and the consequences of the first confrontations between the French and the Spanish. The exhibit holds valuable pieces and documents, much of which are untouched, from the local collections dedicated to historical memory, such as the Museo de Historia a la Hemeroteca Municpal , the Biblioteca Histórica (Historical Library) and the Archivo de Villa (Town Archives).
