COMPLEMENTO DIRECTO 2026-27. Open Call

Sixth edition /// Applications open until 7th September

COMPLEMENTO DIRECTO (Direct Object) is a scholarship programme, accompanied by individual and group mentoring and other forms of support, which aims to support training in cultural mediation and to build a university community that strengthens practices situated at the intersection of art, education, cultural participation and social action.

This initiative seeks to promote and consolidate specific education programmes in this field, whilst facilitating access to them. It aims to support – both financially and through careful guidance- future professionals who choose to specialise in cultural mediation, thereby fostering the professionalisation and legitimisation of this practice whose importance is more relevant than ever at this time of eco-social and democratic crisis.

To achieve these objectives, the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, in collaboration with hablarenarte, is offering 14 scholarships, each worth €2,200, with the aim of providing financial assistance to individuals interested in undertaking postgraduate studies (excluding PhDs) focused on or related to cultural mediation at universities or higher education institutions in Spain during the forthcoming 2026–2027 academic year.

Going beyond financial support, COMPLEMENTO DIRECTO is a community that supports, builds and learns alongside the students. For this reason, each of these grants is complemented by a programme of individual mentoring and group sessions led by active cultural mediators, with the aim of enriching and adding value to the training of each grant recipient, as well as fostering the creation of networks relevant to their future endeavours. Additionally, the grant recipients will take part in an in-person kick-off event and a closing event, strengthening ties within this community. The programme also includes a support fund – known as ‘Semillero’  (Incubator) – designed to bolster the entrepreneurial ventures of both current and former grant recipients.

In previous editions, group sessions have featured cultural mediators and artists such as Javier Rodrigo, Sofía de Juan, Renata Cervetto, AMECUM, Ana Andrés, Marta Fernández Calvo, Ana Gallardo, Amparo Moroño, Anto Rodríguez, Marina Monsonís, Belén Sola, Gad Yola, Amapola López, Johanna Palmeyro, Dagmary Olívar and Christian Fernández Mirón, as well as initiatives like ‘cuerpoterritorio’ and ‘el menú de la ciutat rural’. Collaborations have been established with Residencia de Estudiantes, Centro Huarte Centre, IVAM, CCCC, Planta Alta artist residency programme, the ‘Remediar’ event at Reina Sofía Museum, and Condeduque’s ‘(re)vuelta al patio’ project.

Students of any nationality who are interested in pursuing a profesional career in the cultural mediation sector are eligible to apply for the scholarships covered by this call for applications, provided they intend to undertake postgraduate studies in this field during the upcoming 2026–27 academic year at Spanish universities or educational institutions, and who will be residents in Spain for the duration of their studies.
