Planta Alta, Madrid

Outcome of the call for 2 residencies for cultural professionals based in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Within the international project Other Edges of the World, supported by the Creative Europe programme, we open a call for two artists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to develop projects in Madrid related currents ideas of centre(s) and peripheries.

The call was open between May and June 2023. After reviewing the applications received, the following two candidates were selected:

LENKA HOLÍKOVÁ

Dates of residency at Planta Alta: September – October 2023

Czechia, 1984. A visual artist, illustrator, university teacher, in 2011 she completed her master’s degree in plastic arts at Hradec Králové University, Czechia. Lenka has participated in numerous group exhibitions: Graphic popular and contemporary in Espacio 14; Ex-libris in Proyectroom; Versus in UPAEP Museum (Puebla); Forest city, 7 explorations in Centro Cultural, Casa Baltazar (Córdoba); Ixtli Mayahuel in Museo Regional Cholula, 1989 in MPAC MinEastry of Postcollapse Art (Oregon, USA). She also held solo exhibitions, including: In the realm of memory at Galería Garco, After desire at Espacio Anarquista (Puebla); Proyecto Masaryk at Instituto Cultural México-Israel (Cdmx). In 2023, Lenka is preparing the following shows: Frontiers, methods of escape in Arte Mare Gallery, Finland (12.9.-3.10.) and Limit of what belongs, curated by Michel Blancsubé, Mexico (November).

 

KVET NGUYEN (HOA NGUYEN THI)

Dates of residency at Planta Alta: November – December 2023

1995. Graduated in 2021 from the Department of Photography and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where she is currently pursuing her PhD studies. She is a laureate of the Tatra Banka Foundation 2021 Award in the Young Artist category. Her bachelor thesis Memoryless, borderdless, nameless space (2018) was awarded second place at the World Biennial of Student Photography in 2019, when it was also exhibited independently for the first time at the 15th edition of the festival [fjúžn]. She actively exhibits in Europe (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, France, Serbia, the Netherlands) as well as on other continents (Canada, Vietnam). She not only deals with the topics of migration, diaspora and their identities in her art projects, but also tries to talk openly about these topics and open up discussion about them in ordinary conversations or other platforms.
