World Music Day 2004. "Carnival of instruments"

Madrid

Círculo de Bellas Artes. Calle Alcalá, 42. Madrid

Círculo de Bellas Artes welcomed for the third consecutive year the celebration of the Music Day in its venue. This years edition followed two threads shared by all of the countries that participated: the construction of traditional and contemporary instruments and the new technologies applied to music, both as tools for the creation and as means of diffusion.
Accepting these proposals, the slogan of the Fiesta was “Carnival of instruments”, and relied on an exposition of luthiery presented by members of “Asociation Española de Luthiers y Arqueteros Profesionales”, coming from Madrid , Cataluña and Andalucía. On the other side, the National Museums joined the Círculo de Bellas Artes to offer, on Sunday the 20 th, concerts and an open day in order to visit its collections of instruments.
As far as new technologies are concerned, a unique concert retransmitted by a video-conference at real time between Madrid and London was planned; it was interpreted jointly by students and teachers of different music schools of Pozuelo de Alarcón, and pupils of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in the English capital.
